If you are just starting out as a nail tech, you’ll be keen to know which products are worth investing in. There is such a huge variety of products on the market, all at different price points - so it can be confusing knowing which are really going to make a difference to your work.

While much of your job involves talent and training, you should never underestimate the importance of quality supplies. Even with incredible skills, if your supplies fall short, so will your finished result. Repeat business relies on your reputation, so it's important that you start out with the best possible products - without breaking the bank.

So, we’ve put together a list of our 6 must-have nail tech supplies that will make a big difference to your work - and to your bottom line.

1. A selection of quality nail files

It might seem obvious - as nail files are such basic supplies for a nail tech, but the quality really matters. It’s well worth spending an extra few pence. Your work will be easier, faster and your finished result will be much better if you use the correct files. Crystal Nails Xtreme range of files (from £1.65) offer great durability, meaning they’ll last longer and can be sanitized without problems.

2. Cuticle remover

Your new best friend for the perfect manicure finish! Cuticle Remover (£5.35) gently softens tough dead skin around the cuticle for easy removal - you’ll be amazed at what comes away! A brilliant product for your kit.

3. Good quality nail forms

It makes all the difference to your application to invest in high quality nail forms. Crystal Nails Butterfly (£19.95 for 300) forms are extremely versatile and have an adhesive strong enough to keep them in place with no faffing!

4. Kolinsky Acrylic Brush

A good brush is an absolute necessity if you want to create beautiful, well-structured nails. Cheap brushes will shed hairs, clog and mess up your work. Crystal Nails brushes are made of soft, natural Kolinsky bristles, which give you brilliant product control. The A8 (£29.95) brush is a great investment for your kit; recommended for both experienced and less experienced nail technicians. A good all-rounder, it’s not too big or small, so gives you flexibility to try different techniques before investing in more specialized brushes.

5. Multi Purpose Prep-Spray

You don’t want your desk cluttered up with multiple products, when only one is really needed. Crystal Nails Prep Spray is a fab multi tasker. As it is antifungal and antibacterial, it can be used to sanitize hands and tools, but also to dehydrate and degrease nails prior to your product application.

6. Gel Cleanser

If you use any gel product which has a sticky layer, DON’T SCRIMP on a cleanser! All your hard work creating perfectly finished, high shine nails can be wiped out (literally) if you don’t use a good nail cleanser. Crystal Nails Cleanser (£6.95 for 100ml) has properties which cleanse away the inhibition layer perfectly, leaving a perfect high gloss finish. Not only that, but it contains conditioners and antibacterial agents meaning clients are protected from start to finish of their service. It’s also perfect for the maintenance of your tools, as you can use it to clean your gel brushes and even your UV lamp.

Remember, everything you purchase is an investment. You are only as good as your tools, so give yourself a helping hand and use the best you can afford. Get savvy with your product choices and choose multi-taskers where you can. Don't underestimate the importance of small or disposable items that you use frequently, such as nail wipes. As a nail technician, your reputation is your biggest asset, so get ALL of your products working in your favour!
